It felt like the beginning of winter when I took this. There was new snow about 1000 feet up and it was wet and cold. This was a tough scene for a point-and-shoot camera to expose. I made two exposures and this one was the better one. It would be unrealistic to expect a camera to just be able to perfectly expose this scene. You have to help the meter a little by pre-evaluating. I got the best exposure by pointing the center of the lens at the slope in the background where there was a fair amount of light. This made the shadows darker but allowed the sensor to hold the highlights. And there's still plenty of shadow detail left to work with, if I want to make adjustments.
