Too square to be hip.

I really like this camera, Olympus has hit on a pretty cool idea for futuristic slr style interchangable lens digital cameras. Unfortunantly I am not a proponet of what I see as a flawed system..ie.. 4/3. And Olympus has to get serious about image quality.

Ahhhhh, don't be so quick to judge. I've used the E-1 and didn't feel like I was making any image quality compromise. And the smaller size of the camera meant that I could more easily keep the camera with me and carry it on my bike. I had an interesting conversation with a rep from the Kodak sensors division at PMA. They manufactured both of the the E-System CCDs for Olympus. The Four-Thirds sensor is similar to a different film format. It's what allows Olympus to use the marvelous lenses that are what I consider the main benefit of the system. The difference between the Four-Thirds system and other digital SLRs is similar to the difference between 645 and 35mm. The 645 format gives more film surface area but the camera is bigger and the lenses are larger and slower. Similarly, the larger sensors on other digital SLRs have their benefits, but the Four-Thirds system delivers a smaller camera and more compact, faster lenses than would be practically possible with a larger sensor.
