This is a road detour Alaskan style. A wreck at mile 55 on the Sterling Highway outside of Cooper's landing resulted in this. All traffic from the highway was detoured onto the Skilak loop which as you can see is a dirt road that goes 20 something miles into the wiklderness. It was about a 2 hour drive at 5 mph dodging each other at the last second. We could not see 20 feet in front of each other. Most of the cars were not made for this road and many were stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I did my duty and helped on lady and here sister with a flat. The wreck on the Sterling was a gas tanker and some other cars. Several people died.
