Some nice B&W's drg

I like this the best out of the series. Has a great feel to it and I love the contrasting

Might play around just a hair with the branches on the far left as they are a tad washed out.

Thanks again, I posted most of my comments in the forums.

There's a lot of detail in the branches but to bring it out I have to selectively edit the photo which I was trying not to do with this group.

I've been importing film scan into the database and this was the 30 second or so variety adjustment in Lightroom with the quick border and sig from one of those 'other' programs.

Just out of curiosity, do you calibrate your screen on your notebook/laptop? Makes a big difference for me when I calibrate the notebooks I use, and I find they don't seem to hold very well and of course when the light around me changes so does the calibration (grumble, grumble).

The "30 second" adjustment. That's the BEST part of Lightroom I have found so far :thumbsup: Yes, my notebook monitor is calibrated. Mine has the WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280x768) Display. There are 2 problems I've had so far with the display: A. It's clearer than most displays and clearer than a print will come out. Hence, I adjust my photos for my display but, they tend to look under exposed and have a loss of detail in prints I have had done and when viewed on other LCD displays. B. It has a "glossy" display instead of the usual anti-glare. So, while I don't experience color shifts depending on lighting, I get lots of glare and reflections if I'm not careful.

I just posted a few comments in the forums as well regarding this photo. That display type are usually far better I feel and are generally setup for watching DVD's than for working with photos as they are setup. The 'shiny/gloss' non filtered screens are fine in a darkened room or at leat with no direct light on them. A subtle natural backlight 3 - 6 feet behind them (like a shaded window or matte wall reflection) can vastly improve the consistency of editing results acheivable with this class of screen.

Remember that even some of the poorest displays will have 2-3 time the contrast ratio of ink and paper. That's what calibration, when done for printing, is partially desgined to help over come. If you are trying to much printing be sure that your profiles (monitor, printer, paper, ink, and camera) are all on the same page. If you are shooting sRGB in the camera, it usually is best to let the printer figure out the best match to print. Adobe 1998 RGB and better will give you some more play room but still the best prints don't need to be a trial and error process once things are all calibrated and coordinated properly.

I certainly like the speed with which I can go through a days work. This recent adventure in film cataloging has been eyeopening too!
