OK this is getting a little ridiculous. Every thing you have posted for the last couple of weeks has been off the charts mouth dropping good. It,s a beauty. Since I'm in southern California and I will probably never shoot a snow scene like this, its a moot point. But I am curious - what point or how did you meter for that shot?

Jack, you may not shoot a snow scene anytime soon, but if your going for some white sandy beaches the same strategy may apply. I have my camera set for evaluative metering mostly, and it usually does a great job in most situations. However, with all the white snow and bright sky I knew the camera would suggest a exposure that would surely be under making the white snow gray. I merely compensate by "over exposing" a full stop.
Also, I check my histogram after each shot to make sure the whites are not leaving the chart. I prefer to slightly underexpose and bring back detail in the RAW file afterwards. This is what enabled me to maintain some detail in the texture of the foreground snow.
