Wombats are nocturnal animal and eat the green grass along the side of the road. Many are hit by cars and are killed. Not only does the wombat get killed but in many cases because they are such a solid animal they cause considerable damage. They have a tendency to want to cross the road just in front of the of an oncoming car.
