Very nice image John. I love your framing on this one. Both the foreground and the hills in the background form a nice frame for the vineyard. May have been nice if you could have squeezed out a bit more color for the sky.

Yeah, I agree about the sky. As I indicated in the description, I was already squeezing to get it this good. I used the camera's histogram to make sure I wasn't completely blowing it out. But in the original file, the foreground is much, much darker than what you see here. This is one of those situations where having a tripod and digital SLR and making multiple exposures to sandwich together would have been nice. But I was on a bike ride and had the Panasonic LX2 and had to do the best with what I had. So all things considered, I'm pretty happy. I can't help wondering if I would have been able to get more out of it if I'd used the Panasonic's RAW mode, though...

Thanks for the comment. I have taken a lot of nice photos in this vicinity. It's very picturesque when the light is good. It's one of those local spots that you take for granted because you see it so much. But when you stop to look or share it with others, you realize that it's pretty special.

Nice photo John. I have flown over that area many times and have always wanted to visit it on the ground.

I thought you wrangled a pretty good compromise between foreground and sky. Your LX2 seemed to do a reasonable job. I regularly get frustrated with P&Ss under that kind of exposure range. But you can’t carry the bag all the time. -Bill

Nice photo John. I am always drawn to your work. You could have probably gotten more out of it if you used RAW and an HDR program, I had my G2 on JPEG for the last half of the time I used it though. I just got tired of processing images.

I could have gotten more out of it if I'd just shot RAW. And I don't need an HDR program - those of us in the know have been combining varied exposures in layers for years

But to do that right I would have needed a tripod and I was on my bike, the priority being the ride and not perfect photos. Still, shooting RAW and then doing two conversions and combining them in layers is always a good strategy for increasing the dynamic range of an image in tricky lighting.
