Instant flash in front of me.Wrong lens/exposure settings.Left me with this very flat image.So,My idea is to learn how not to totally blow it , a rare photo op.I was not prepared.No tripod,exposure settings hurting. I'm left with what you see. I see this as a experimental image.Very dark.
I may post a differnt experiment.
The bird was really quite breathtaking ,this image does it no justice
Rick, I've had the same problem and surely others have as well. My usual answer is to leave the camera set on Program most of the time so that as long as there's time to focus, the camera can do most of the rest. Pam, Thankyou for your advice.I hardly ever used program.I'll dig out my owners "book" manual, see what I'm missing.So,If I'm in Program mode, Man. focus. All I do is fire off 3 frames.It looks to me like you know Nikon. If I remember you are using a D200 these days ? Is the D200 faster? Say 5 frames in 3 sec.? Does program mode allow manual settings also :idea:
Rick, yes, I'm using a Nikon D200 with 18-200 lens, but I don't remember the D200's speeds like frames per second (I rarely use the faster shutter speeds). By going to the Program mode between special shots in shutter or aperture priority or manual modes, I can sometimes grab the unexpected shots--but no promises! Program mode allows several manual settings (ISO, WB, etc.), but it does the exposure for you. I think this applies to most Nikon DSLRs. Since my approach is to snap what catches my interest at the moment, not just say "I'm doing birds today", I can save some pix this way.
