Well 50 plus years of experiance really helps. But here a tip, wait until you think it's to dark for a decent photograph then shoot it at F-16 for a second or two, you will absorb all the residual light in the sky and really get some spectacular results. An old photographer told me years ago not to be afraid of the dark, but it took me years to figure out what he was talking about, I'm pleased you appreciate it.
