That's a very pretty place. This has a distinctive side-of-the-road feel to it, though. It looks like you pulled over, got out of the car, and took the picture. I wasn't there so I don't know for sure. But I think a little extra effort might have made a much, much better photo. On the positive side, you did stop and take the picture - that's always the hardest part. And your exposure is beautiful. I love the dark rocks in front of the bright ones in the background. And that line of light on the shadowed rocks is great.

If you post an image on a photography site you should expect some criticism. I meant it in a useful way. Criticism is part of serious photography. Graceful acceptance indicates confidence and a willingness to learn and grow.

You are the only one that can be counted on to take it upon yourself to inject “constructive criticism”. John, I’m sure it is well intended but it is also very grating. It is obvious to anyone that this photo is a stop and shoot. If I had wanted to make it anything else I would have. And, if I had wanted “constructive criticism” I would have posted it in the “Photo Critic” section of the gallery.

That's my job! And it's my personal goal to challenge every photographer who comes here to try a little harder and expect more of themselves. It's too bad more people don't take the time to offer real and thoughtful criticism. Sometimes a little extra effort makes a huge difference. But I apologize if my attempt to help is taken to be offensive.

I knew the short comings of the above photo before the mirror returned. I’m afraid your critic just rubbed me the wrong way. And, since you were so magnanimous as to offer an apology please allow me to offer one too. Dana, thank you. You are the first person that got it. I have always liked that old postcard look. I did wait for the morning jogger to go by but there was just no let up in car traffic. I saw this from a distance and had to hurry getting to a reasonable shooting position because the light and shadows change so quickly here in the desert southwest. Again, thank you.
Yes, we still have wild horses here. Fort Polk is here (Army) used to be Camp Polk, anyway these horses are descendents of the Army cavalry horses. If you look at them closely you can see quarter horse in them.
As for steel season--my mistake it should be still season. I thought steel because of rifles being made of steel. Wrong-anyway it is still season because we run dogs here on deer and you can't run dogs during still season. I'm sure this is more info than you wanted but that's it in a nutshell.
