Fire Hydrants..such a simple item. About 15 of my friends from around the world have been comparing "fire hydrants"....none have been the same...or even the same color. I had no idea there were this many differences in a simple fire hydrant. Think about it next time you see one...shoot a pic...lets compare.

Hey Dana, You inspire me, twenty years ago I took what I thought was a pretty cool pic of a hydrant. Now I'm gonna search to find the print and see if I can scan it in.
BTW, silver color legal or illegal down by you??

Well all the ones in my town are silver. I was lucky this one had a lovely new paint job. The others my friends have posted are all different. Some are red, some red and yellow. Australia has some interesting ones. They are yellow and flush with the ground. You lift the lid and hook the hose up. The ones up north have tall orange metal poles next to them. So the firemen can find them in the snow. I think you are in upstate N.Y. so yours should have the poles..maybe. Looking forward to your hydrant Steve...get busy.
