The action is good in these shots. However, IMHO, if you want to take them to the next level, I would look for a better use of the backgrounds that are available to you. It looks like you have part of the scoreboard and part of the "Belmont" signage in you background. If it's possible (and I mention this because it looks like it is), I would try to frame these shots so they tell as much of the story as possible. So, if you could position yourself to have the entire "belmont" in the background (and maybe get lower so it's more easily read between the horse's legs) and keep the scoreboard out of it completely, I think it could take shots like these to the next level. The devil is in the details. Keep'em coming.

I appreciate your opinion Jeff. I usually frame my shots wider and get more background. So mostly the problem as you see it is in my cropping technique when editting. I admit I usually tend to crop close. I will try to be more aware of this in the future.

Not to make an excuse, but I like to get of some identifier too, but when they're doing 40mph down the stretch, you shoot continuous and hope for the best and take what you get
