Nice mixed colors, thought more sharpness is required. Do you use a post processing?
Dina, you have two possibilities to make Macro shotsand control sharpness and DOF:
1. Wide angle (no a zoom). The focusing can be from 1 to 50cm.
Greater DOF (more of objects will be in focus) ensures this one.
2. Some zoom factor from 1.3 to full tele (zoom=x4). The focusing will be from 20 to 50cm.
In compact camera changing F- number from F2.8-8.0 gives small difference comparing a SLR. Thought teoretically, F8.0 gives greatwer DOF. Try this comments in your photo practica.:idea:

Hi Dana, this is a lovely shot. As far as sharpness is concerned, smaller apertures (larger numbers, ie: f8) should result in more of the image being sharp. By making the aperture smaller, you're lessening the light that makes it to the sensor, so you need to decrease the shutter speed to compensate, which means you need to use a tripod to combat camera shake.
Using some unsharp mask in photoshop will bring back some sharpness here. Settings such as: sharpness 400, radius 0.3 and threshold of 0-4 would be a starting point. I'm pretty new to the post-processing stuff but am finding it makes a BIG difference in the end result. Once again, lovely image. Congrats on Pic of the Day.

Oh I'm so sorry agni....I didn't realize there was actually translation going on here. We stupid Americans just assume that everyone speaks our language...not very nice of us is it? Me, being sort of new here, don't know whom is connected to whom in this group. I see that everyone in Isreal knows each other. Don't worry about translating..I need to learn on my own. Photoelectric, Thanks so much for your suggestions and comments. I am so lame I didn't even know about this processing business...I know, pathetic ain't I? All I ever did in my Canon processing was trim the pictures. I did do some experimenting today..hmmmm..there are good tools in there. I was very honored to have the rose chosen for pic of the day...I think the honor should probably go to the rose...it is not your common, everyday rose. I think thats what did the trick. Thank you all.
i get to wade in now dana...great photo! i love the way that it's tightly focused in the center of the rose and then somewhat faded out on the edges which i think helps to keep your eye trained on the central and key elements. SUPER SHOT!!! and congrats on the pic of the day!!
