As I was hiking around Pincrest Lake in CA I noticed these three small chairs set up on top of a stump. The kids were out in the water playing.

Ahhhhhh - Pinecrest! I love that lake. I went to Boy Scout camp near there and have spent a bunch of time swimming in that freezing water. Done some big cliff jumps out by the dam, too. That's a great lake.

I think you're trying to get too much into this photo. It feels very cluttered and I wouldn't have noticed the kids if you hdan't said something. I think a photo of either just the kids on the rock, or the chairs, might have worked. But to get it all in one image, and with those boats in the background - I think it's just too much. Next time you encounter a scene like this, ask yourself what's really important. Try to simplify your photo - distill it down to only three elements, if you can. No matter how much we want to show, simpler is almost always better. Plus, it's a good exercise, thinking about what really matters in a photo and trying to leave out the rest.

You know - I think I may even recognize that rock. Maybe not, though :-)
