Cool photo! That there is a hanging glacier.At least I think that's what you call it. That was a tough exposure and you got it perfectly, I think. Might be nice to see a bit of detail in the trees, though. That might just be my crappy laptop monitor.

Thank you, Photo-John, I appreciate that. I thought it looked....glacier-ish....but I gave up trying to identify it as such when I could find reference to it anywhere. Still, there are so many in that area. And no, it's not your crappy monitor, I just didn't have a graduated ND filter so I couldn't expose for both the trees in the foreground and the detail in the snow. Would have been nice, though!

With your D50, you shouldn't need a graduated ND filter. The information will be there, in the shadow detail. You just need to learn how to pull it out. That's why you need to learn to use masked Photoshop adjustment layers. Aside from a polarizer, they're all the filters you'll ever need - and more.
