These guys, although very cooperative for photographs usually, can still be hard to shoot. Getting in position for a good angle on the spider and eliminating distracting background can sometimes be very difficult. I would have liked to see a little more detail in the web in this image and a bit sharper on the spider. Is this a crop or full frame? Overall though you have a photo to be proud of.Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thank you for your comments. I have no idea what species it is and I was totally grossed out while I was shooting it. As soon as I took a few shots, I had my husband get rid of it before it carried off one of my pugs! Yes, Mr. Old Timer, I agree that the angle isn't the best - its web was hanging off the eve of our porch, so the other alternative would have been to shoot through screen. Therefore, I tried to blur the background as much as possible. In fact, the slightly darker shading down the left side is a pole that a nearby bird platform sat on. It is cropped slightly, but the cropped regions had even less web detail than what you see here. Thanks again for the helpful comments - things I'll certainly keep in mind for the next time!
