I think this is more than an entry level camera for enthusiasts entering into the DSLR market. I think the image quality will be on par with the NIkon D-200, and very well may just best it (with the proper lens, and mind you this remains to be seen), is my prediction. At 10.2 megapixels the resolution of this camera with the new sensor (it isn't the same sensor as the R-1) ought to be fantastic matched with state of the art technology in anti-shake, DRO (dynamic range optimizer), and the Bionz processor. At $899 it seems a steal for what you are getting for the price. I think it will throw a punch at the Nikon D-200x, D-70, the Canon 30D, 20D, and 350 Digital Rebel's market share, and quite possibly take a decent portion of it. I know as an avid and dedicated Sony user I have been waiting for this camera to come out to jump into the DSLR market and I'm pretty sure there are many other Sony fans who will jump on this ship as well. Sony has made just the right move at just the right time and I think the big guys have noticed also and are already preparing marketing new camera's against it. Sony has always maintained a high quality product for the price, and I'm very very excited they have taken this task seriously and offered up a camera system, and not just a new DSLR. I imagine a pro body is in the works as well. I will be posting a review of this camera as soon as I get mine with my two lenses I have ordered ( the 100mm macro lens, and 75-300 compact super telephoto lens). To me, Sony has introduced a very very strong and sellable camera into the DSLR market, and im proud of them to meet most of the expectations of thier consumers (and that means me too!).
The Camera gets a 10 in my opinion, for its initial introduction.

Carl
