Alcohol driven experimentation. After a few choice brews, I whipped out the camera at our beachhouse location and tried experimenting with long exposures and zooming. Of course I arranged the figures into a satisfying composition.

Very nice!

I'm not sure who/what was your intended subject in the photo, but the zoom blur makes for a very interesting and effective leading line to the sailor with the bag over his shoulders.

What would be better is if he was in focus. Adjust his position between the bird and the Captain at the helm and focus on him. Set you DOF to blur out the fore/back grounds to isolate the sailor even more.

hehe well there are two captains actually, and that bag is actually his shoulder and his arm (confusing probably because they are out of focus) but I wanted the emphasis on the bird. As I was saying the brew I was consuming had me thinking wierd thoughts so if it isn't obvious what my intent was, then there's no fun in explaining that randomness!

but...
Might have something to do with two confused sailors about to navigate a ship into a big rock in fog while a smart single bird just fly's away from a scene before it happens. I like to poke fun at man's weaknesses and our control issues we posess, if that makes any sense to anyone. There, I went and explained most of it, not that funny eh?
