Don't know if you did anything to freeze the creature. If you did, then you can circle around and try a few angles to see which one look best. If the wing is closed, you can get a good shot of the underside in a vertical format. Otherwise, try horizontal format and include a little more of the right side.

Otherwise, they are like birds and don't like intrusion at all. I tried taking butterfly photos before. Sometimes if you get too close or just 1 click on the shutter and off they go. There was 1 time I saw a Black Swallowtail low on the grass very early in the morning. It remained motionless for over 5 minutes. Walked back a few steps to get my camera and got a reasonable shot.
