I beg to differ Glenn...I would not call that a "normal" shot at all. Surreal...as in "Magritte surreal". It doesn't even look real. You have a fantastic view from your kitchen...very lucky man.

A nice scene - in fact, this is a type of photo that I've often contemplated and tried myself a few times. Sometimes the view out the kitchen window is inspiring, and worth photographing. For me, I usually end up tossing them or just leaving them on the hard drive.
I see two problems with this image. The most obvious one is the overexposure in the sky. The lower part, with the clouds, is losing a fair amount of information. Try to always expose for the highlights. You can always lighten up shadow areas in digital images. But once the highlights are gone there's nothing you can do.
The other problem is the composition. I think there's too much empty space in the sky, above the clouds. For this to really work, I'd want the clouds to be in the center of the sky or even near the top. You sort of have two images in one, here - the actual image, and the image framed in the window. They should both follow the Rule-of-Thirds as much as possible. By taking the photo from a slightly higher angle you could have move the clouds up in the frame and had a more balance composition. Looking for these slight compositional tweaks can often be the difference between a nice photo and a great photo.
