"They are not nearly as aggressive as their reputation, are they ?"

They're worse. The bastards will sting when you barely do anything to them. Their sting is wayyyy worse than a bee's. Bees can sting me all day, please. But a wasp/hornet sting feels like someone punched you - no kidding. It stuns. Last time one stung me, I swear I could taste the poison. I hate them.

But this is a cool photo

I sent this image to my brother and said Buzzy the Hornet will soon build a whopper of a nest in his attic larger than his balding head.

Very nice!
I'll never get this close unless I buy a 1,000 mm lense (Glenn, I'd be okay without ever seeing another hornet except here, stop defending the creature please). :-)

This is well done.

If you disturb/stumble into a nest...then run for the nearest pond of water.

Ahhh ! Very good portrait of a much-maligned insect. They are not nearly as aggressive as their reputation, are they ?

Too many superb macro pictures coming up. Maybe time to retire !
