Apartment complex in Heisler Park (Laguna Beach) CA. My first (semi) serious attempt at an architectural photograph. I liked how the cliff and the apartment complex interact together in this photo. I tried to lead the eye through the photo using the cliff face.
Side note: The R-1 has amazed me recently with it's handling of bright outdoor sunlight shots, the tonal range inparticular. I think this shot demostrates a bit the quality it has. I'm getting over my fear of shooting in mid day now

For me, this is another philosophical approach. The age and permanence of the rock contrasting with the super-modern.

Interesting, glad you see it like this Glenn. I like your insight quite a bit.

Wonder which of the two 828 or R1 produces the sharper picture.

I think the R-1 is better overall in tonal range and overall sharpness quite a bit. It can be hard to percieve I think though on the size of the images I post. But on my prints, the difference is very obvious especially the bigger ones. The R-1 also has a much smaller aperature, giving you a greater depth of field range than the 828. I might do a side by side comparison of both cameras one day just for fun, using a tripod and the exact same settings I.E. focal length and aperature etc... to see the difference. That could be a fun project. I think the 828 would do some really nice macro work though, and potentially has a better chance at getting more magnification on images.
I do all my sharpening however out of camera, so maybe that is why they look so comparable? dunno.

I think the R-1 is a clear winner however overall, and I use it 90% of the time. The 828 is still a great camera if you use its best attributes.
