Standing on Almaden Dam looking out over the New Almaden valley in south San Jose,ca. This is a very old dam structure built in 1935.

The "X" is a Survey Aerial Target..

The red arrow is one of 8 solar-powered satellite-radio seismic monitoring devices located on this dam.
Their purpose is to provide real-time on-site data & detect seismic activity, monitor the dam structural integrity and hopefully warn of potential disaster in case of a seismic event.

As you know...this is earthquake country, all dams are monitored by the USGS.
