The Sad Coin Story.

So I want a new camera. I have an old gold coin of my grandmothers that I decided to sell in order to make this purchase. I did my research online about the price..but I really know nothing about the grading system. It could be anywhere from $300 to $4000. I take it to the dealer, he looks at the first side and says "very nice", he turns it over and says "oh, oh, someone carved the letter "M" into her face. My grandmothers name is Myrtle...thanks Granny for ruining my coin. He still offered me $325 for it..but I will shop around a little bit more.

It may be sad for you, but you told it in a funny way that made me laugh. I think If it is pure gold then its worth at least its weight, not to mention the historical aspect. Yes, you should shop around or get it appraised to know the real value.

Take some of your old hippie clothes to a consignment shop and sell them but keep your grandmothers coin.

Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

LOL...Larry..I still wear my old hippie clothes. I also do all my clothes shopping at second hand stores. I don't want to keep it...when I die my son will just take it to a pawn shop and get $20 for it..trust me on that one.
It is gold Kal..and it is worth more then the price of just the weight of gold....even as a defaced coin.
BTW..I kinda thought it was funny too...she had a habit of marking everything in her house to keep it away from her sisters clutches.

I wanted to share my experience,when I left my country,a donkey years back, my mother give me a gold ring so that I can sell for survival ( that time the government allowed US $ 7 and 10 sterling pounds ) when I went to dealer ,they asked me a certificate, which I don't have ,the gold ring is still with me.

Well, we feel differently about things. I'd be very hesitant selling my parents stuff because I shared life with them but as for my grandparents, I would If I need the money. I don't like keeping valuable items in a dark box when I need the money to enjoy. After all, life is too short and everything comes to an end someday.
You should decide for yourself what will make you happier?, keeping the coin in a box and forget about it?, or buy a camera that you enjoy everyday?.
