Love this! I think the birds in the air make it for me. Ordinarily I think I might complain about the empty space in the sky but that one bird in the upper left balances it all out, I think. This has a very spare, existential feel that really works for me.

I took this photo early sunday morning, and was a bit disappointed, I wanted to shoot the early sun light through the arches, i went back home and didn't touch the photos
Later I went out for lunch , kind of far, about 1hr drive, no camera with me, while driving I got a clearer idea how I wanted to process the image, and it is exactly what you describe , gave a gradient to the water and sky loosing the background into nothingness kind into infinite giving it the "existential feel"
