Glass is difficult to shoot and hard to make look really interesting unless you have some good lighting that adds contrast and brings out the depth. I think in this case, the lighting is kinda flat and makes the wings look too soft and uninteresting.
Perhaps a strong side light would break of the symmetry and add to this. Play with the lighting and keep it up.
Use your pic of the bottom of the glass as an example of pulling this off. In that photo, you added curiosity with the off-center and the lighting.

I saw what you were saying about the lighting and went back to check the print. The scan I did actually got washed out a bit and so I redid it. I'm not sure if the comment still stands but atleast now the picture is the way it should be.
