Another glassy day in the Gulf of Oman. We came alongside USS Mobile Bay and I got the opportunity to spend a day onboard this awesome piece of weaponry.

USS MOBILE BAY is the seventh ship in the TICONDEROGA class and the second cruiser of that class equipped with the Mk 41 VLS, SH-60 Helicopters.

Impressive Almo, do you have military links?

The most outstanding aspect of the Tic is the Aegis weapons system, which uses a phased array radar (non-rotating) to track an enormaous number of targets and control so many outgoing missiles that I have heard that they can use a LINK 16 network to control the missle launcher of a nearby ship and fire their weapons. Google Aegis to find out more.

Do you think this looks like a photo of a model ship? The sea gets unbeleivably glassy in the Gulf of Oman.

I have 2 uncles that are retired from the coast guard. And several navy too.

My uncle is Retired Admiral Robert Lucas, of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was the chief designer of several ships currently used by the C.G. and the Navy.
