Photo taken July 30, 2009 during a visit to Bermuda.

Crystal Caves include Crystal & Fantasy Caves is a major attraction on the Islands and highly accessible. The 2 subterranean limestone caves have clear blue-green pools of water that flow from Harrington Sound to the Atlantic.

Many parts of the caves are surprisingly well-lit by artificial lighting (color of halogen lights). When first discovered by boys looking for a lost cricket ball the lighting available may be a flashlight or a few candles.

For many of the photos taken it was possible to rely on artificial lights within a reasonable 1s exposure, lens wide-open at lower ISO settings for less grain.

One consideration when going on vacation is to travel light. Instead of carrying a bulkier SLR, decided to go with a P&S. This Canon is a performer with bright aperture & a good 10x zoom. The only drawback is the heavy drain on the batteries. Fortunately the 2 AA alkalines lasted just enough to cover both caves.

The final image was enhanced by slightly darkening the rock formations lower-right of image to give more color saturation. Otherwise the rest of the photo remained as taken originally without flash.
