I want to know how and why i messed this photo up one of many i took all came out with similar effect

as the stutter speed was very slow have i caused this by moving with the camera

What a shame... this could be stunning...

I think this might be *Auto focus error /maybe camera shake...The F/stop set at 4.2 will not give a very good DOF.A Tripod is a MUST for night work...I sometimes use a bean bag for low angle shots.In a pinch I have used my shoe to hold the camera at the desired angle.

Using a higher iso will give some help if the camera is capable. Judging from your initial settings: My suggestion: >> Tripod / 4 seconds @ F/11 iso 640. If there is too much digital noise... lower your iso, increase EV comp ,it's a valuable tool( + settings.) It's better to over-expose slightly,easier to fix later.

*Additionally I have achieved good results by ---> disable AF , set focus to infinity. Please go back this location is tops

Thanks for the advice we are going back before the end of the year hopefully

I didnt have the tripod with me at the time as we had just had dinner and was just walking it off impromptu shot next time i will know its coming and will prepare

I didnt even check the shots wasnt until i got home and uploaded them that i realised what i had done was very annoyed with myself but its a learning curve and im learning all the time
