Photo was taken in a field full of thorny Thistle bushes in late morning. (A city park by L. Ontario in Toronto, Canada)

Spotted the butterfly from a distance flying from flower to flower collecting nectar. Due to the location, could not get very close without having thorns stuck to clothing.

After a careful pursuit got as close as about 1/3 life-size and did a 40% crop on computer. A 2x tele-converter attachment may be the only way to get a bit closer crop without chasing it away.

After getting 4 shots, the insect disappeared into the dense vegetation.
