Thanks old timer, these birds were in breeding season and the combination of their bright red plummage and the bright sun coupled with the dark background really shows off their brilliance.
Hey robst, thanks these birds really are incredibly bright at this time of year and of course there is a little artistic license using p/shop but not as much as you might think especially when you consider the colour of the natural foliage in the shot too.
