Just 13 mi. outside Juneau Alaska you'll come to the Mendenhall Glacier. Like the other glaciers (as many as 42 in a 1000 sq. mi. radious), this glacier is snow covered all year around and as you can see winter snow over many years get compacted into ice. The ice eventually flows downward to feed Mendenhall Lake & River below.
The weather was cool with light rain. Otherwise with heavy cloud cover.
