Was this one in the wild? I have several columbine images but all from my wifes garden. Nice job. Love it when we get the whites exposed right. It's always a tossup with me.Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Yes, it was photographed in Mill Creek Canyon, just above Salt Lake City. There are tons of them up there - lots of opportunity to find one with a perfect shape and a nice background.
Getting the whites right is no mystery. This one was in shadow, which softens and flattens the light. Using the camera's histogram, I shot it a bit dark to make sure I didn't lose any detail. Then I used Photoshop adjustment layers to fine-tune the contrast, color, and density to get it looking exactly the way I want it to look.
