Blue Mud Dauber Wasp- Docile and independent as they are beautiful. They won't sting unless mishandled, to protect themselves. They prey exclusively on Black and Brown Widow spiders, and refuel on flower nectar inbetween. The spiders are fed to their young; a single egg is laid on the paralyzed spider in a burrow, and when hatches eats the spider alive. Related to the Tarantula Hawk Wasp as well.
Shot in macro mode with my GRD III (a heavenly compact).
