Although the Iranians uprising of June 1963 was severely repressed by the Pahlavi security and military forces (SAVAK) and Imam Khomeini was sent into exile.
Thousands of Iranian youth were martyred during the struggle against the Pahlavi regime, but nevertheless the Islamic Revolution finally toppled the Pahlavi monarchy on February 11, 1979.
