While traveling in Hoonah, Alaska, came across some homes on the main road facing the sea. Some had plaques (like a small tomb stone) commemorating people by the front door. Looks more like a community that got into bad economic times, packed their bags and moved elsewhere.
There is still a sizable native Indian population in Hoonah.
Besides fishing, logging was a main industry. Aparently some years ago logging was restricted by the US Federal government since the forests in the local area are under federal jurisdiction.
