this is a typical "Charleston" style house... narrow width of the lot at the street but deep enough for a large house. this one obviously had been divided into apartments at some point but likely had been a beautiful family home for most of its life. the open porches of this style house typically faced an alley that would lead to a beautiful garden in the back. there would be houses to both side... to the left would be the alley - wide enough for a carriage - and then on the right, the next house would be very close!
