thanks rick, this is not the original but i'll send it to you..very difficult lighting that day with fog and glare. this was played with a bit in image tricks but not solarized.....

A neutral density filter is what you need on the beach.It effectively lowers your exposure by 2 stops. Does your camera have an adaptor avail for filter mounts. Look on E-bay, type in your camera model.
Also bright days on the beach respond well to a Circ. polarizer filter.
