I can't believe no one else has commented on this one. Even someone with no interest in surfing at all should appreciate this. Composition, timing, and exposure are all excellent! Is there more detail in all that spray? The only criticism I have is that some of the spray looks blown out and the surfer's arm is in front of his face. I know what that's like, though. You set up and shoot and you can't control the athlete much. You just have to keep shooting and hope you get a perfect one. Could you change your angle so you could see his face better or would you end up too far away? This is by the lighthouse, right? I know you don't have a lot of options out there.
I see you got the 300mm f/2.8 IS. Must be nice to have that at your disposal all the time

Yeah you got it right about the location. The 300 f2.8 IS is the nicest lens I have ever owned! I find myself using it all the time! I think if I had another body that I would leave one attached to the 300 all the time and never take it off.
I am still learning CS2 so I think that could be why the water looks so blown out. I have been practicing though, so things are getting better (slightly).
What you are saying about controlling the athlete is 100% correct! He'd been doing some of these airs, 360 airs, for a little while. I set up in a spot that allowed me to grab his face as he rotated around. Then on this shot, which ended up being his last run of the day, he just pulled a straight air. I couldn't believe it. Oh well, at least I got this shot.
