Hi Carl,I like this flowers. Good colors and DOF.
I compared some such photos on the gallery and can resume that Compact camera like canon A95-610 and of course your APS-c format produce better quality Macro than many SLR with the KIT lens( see e.g. photos of Nicon D50, Canon 20D). How you can explain this phenomena: not good sharpness not well colors?

I honestly think it's the user, not the camera. The colors on the Nikon and the Canon 20D I think are a bit more toned down to be more realistic, but it's not much difference when compared after boosting saturation. Sony I think has the most vivid of colors (and adobe rgb on my camera is the most accurate) so I think it's really the user more than the camera. I cannot attest to the sharpness other than the Kit Lens usually aren't the best of the line of lenses they offer, its a lens that gets you started but not thier best.
