Yes, you are correct. This is a Night-Heron. I like the back lit green. A longer lens will help in future bird shots, your 18-70 is too short.Make an IMPACT...shoot stuff with a CANON!

I agree with O.T. Ill throw a rating in there for him too. I rate with the equipment used, scene, composition, exposure etc, the difficulty given the use of such equipment and experience of the photographer all in mind. I think a 5 is a bit harsh... 7.5 for me.
I would consider cropping the bottom off, at least seeing what it looks like without the rock there.. and maybe a bit on top with a bit of shadow reduction in CS2 to see if you could lighten up the Heron a bit. I would try just for the heck of it, but I would be happy with this shot as is if not.
That's a very nice photo, eugenia. It's my favorite from you yet, I think. Technically I think there's a lot of room for improvement. But stylistically, it's really wonderful.
The main problem is the focus. The focus appears to be on the branches behind the bird. That's not fixable. Next time try to be more careful about where you focus, or stop down more. I think this photo would actually have been better with more depth-of-field. It could also stand a little bit of post-processing to lighten up the bird and even out the overall contrast of the photo.
The technical stuff can be addressed in future photo. But you have a good eye and I'm glad people are recognizing it.
