Welcome to PhotographyREVIEW.com. This is one of the best portraits I've seen here. Technically, the tonality is wonderful. And that's especially tough with black skin. The tight composition is great, too. But most of all, I think you've really managed to convey a sense of the person here. I feel like I'm looking into this man's eyes and having a conversation with him. This makes me want to meet and learn more about him. And what more can we really ask of a photo than it makes us want to know more about the subject.

Thanks John for the insightfull comment and welcome. You are right about dense complections being a challlenge to photography. What seems to work best for me is to use a film with a wide exposure lattitude like Kodak's BW400CN "chromogenic" Then expose at plus one stop, then adjust the brighness slider in my Nikon scan software by minus 40 or so. That seems to bring detail over the entire range of the portrait. Again ,thanks for the nice welcome to PR, Leroy
