Description}: A tombstone in the cemetery at Iosepa, an abandoned Mormon Hawaiian settlement from the late 1800s. I find it very moving to think about these people who came from Hawaii to the desert in Utah because of their faith. It must have been very, very hard.

Description}: Ideal race conditions for cyclocross, anyway :) This was shot with the Nikon 1 AW1 waterproof mirrorless camera, the world's first waterproof, interchangeable lens digital camera. It's a great camera for an event like this where the temperature never got above freezing and it snowed almost the entire time. The AW1's continuous auto focus worked flawlessly and the CX-format sensor and RAW shooting allowed me to get great color and image quality in what would be nearly impossible conditions for a waterproof P&S camera.
