Description}: This was shot with the Canon D20 in the underwater mode - note the wacky color out of the water. That's because the white balance is heavy on the red to compensate for the blue of the pool water. It does look pretty good under the water, though.

Description}: The multi-story viewing area for the kelp forest at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I cannot recommend the aquarium enough for photographers. Just make sure you bring a camera that can handle low light well.

Description}: Tuna are one of my favorite creatures on the planet - they're pure predactory power - beautiful in their perfection. I took this picture in the deep water aquarium room at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was tough to get a good shot because of the very low light and because the fish move so fast. Having the new Canon EOS 5D Mark III and being able to get good quality at ISO 6400 made all the difference in the world.

Description}: The Monterey Bay Aquarium is such a great place to take a camera! You definitely need a camera with good low light performance, though. I think ISO 1600 is the minimum sensitivity for good photos there.

Description}: I believe these are sardines. This was in a big circular room with a cylindrical aquarium above our heads, where the fish swam in circles. I think each one of these fish is about 8 inches long. Note that this was shot at 1/40th of a second at ISO 3200. I should have bumped the ISO up to 6400. It's still good but a faster shutter speed would have been better. I don't think I could have done this with any other camera, though - maybe the Nikon D800.

Description}: These fish are generally not aggressive, but when they do fight they use sharp scalpels by their tails as weapons, not their horns. Please note that I shot this in a holding tank and not in the open ocean!
