Berry Destructive

Description}: A pellet is shot through a strawberry. This "low tech" method does not use the fancy electronics that Ark Biel uses ( http://gallery.photographyreview.com/showphoto.php?photo=93356 ) but it gets the job done. The pellet gun was mounted in a vice and activated a switch connected to the flash when fired. Taken in darkness on bulb setting.

Red Tailed Hawk

Description}: Shot at 375mm with a Kenko 1.4 telextender for 525mm. Hand held with IS activated. This was the best of 3 quick shots through the open window of a car before this hawk took flight. I meant to have the lens set at 400mm but in the rush it didn't happen. This was cropped to approximately 1600 X 1100 px before shrinking to post on the net. It's a bit softer than I would like but I'm still getting used to how this lens/telextender combo works.

Description}: This is one of my first field tests of the Canon 100-400 with a Kenko 1.4X telexteder. Normally you loose auto-focus function with the telextender but auto-focus can be retained by placing a piece of tape over 3 contacts on the telextender.

Description}: As seen from Windsor, Ontario. This 2.5 sec exposure ( self timed with mirror lockup) was taken by balancing the camera on a railing. Minor distortion was corrected in ps. The "banding" in the sky is a jpeg artifact that is not present in the full size version.

Description}: Thus Black-Crowned Night Heron stalks the banks of the Thames River, near Lake St. Clair, looking for minnows. This "rear view" shows the back feathers have not acheived the dark black colour characteristic of breeding adults. Cropped and sharpened. Shot at 500mm.

Description}: This juvenile was within 50 feet of two other Black-Crowned Night Herons who were sporting the entirely different plumage of a one year old and a mature adult. Sharpened and cropped to 75% of original.

Description}: Must see cgarrad's photo of the one year old, and "Another 2 Year Old" to make a complete set in viewing the Black Crowned Night Heron in all it's many forms. Hand held at 500mm, inadvertently shot at +.3, (aperture priority) darkened, sharpened and cropped. Todays catch from a fishing boat.

Description}: This immature Bald Eagle is one of the few I've been lucky enough to spot in this area, on the south shore of Lake St. Clair. It will attain it's white head and darker body feathers by next year. It is perched on a branch that hangs over the water. Shot at 500mm in overcast conditions, from a rocking boat, hand held. Cropped and adjusted in PS2.

Black-crowned Night-Heron

Description}: This Night-Heron seemed oblivious to our presence. We were in a boat in the Thames River (Ontario) and this Heron was hunting where a small creek emptied into the river. We approached as close as the water depth would allow, approx 40 feet from the bird, and the challenge was to get a shot clear of the obstructing vegetation. After about 20 frames, he slowly made his way deeper into the weeds. Shot at 500mm, cropped and adjusted in PS2.

Description}: A lightning storm rolled across the lake. This is a full frame shot with no photoshop (other than shrinking and removing two red spots from bad pixels). A series of "random" shots using bulb setting and a wired remote. Out of 50 shots I got a few fuzzy ones (improper focusing in the dark) and this one which made it all worth it.
