Description}: Coming back out of Kachemak Bay toward Anchor Point. I could not make it to Homer on the Beach. The rocks turned to Winnegago sized boulders with no room between them to pass through. My Jeep was not that good a climber. On the way out I found this guy admiring the same view I did coming in. Just goes to show that all God's creatures recognize splendor when we see it.

As usual I went a little too far and wound up in the rocks just before Kachemak Bay off Cook Inlet. I took this phot on the way in, looking back across Cook Inlet at Augustine Volcano

Detour Alaska Style

Description}: This is a road detour Alaskan style. A wreck at mile 55 on the Sterling Highway outside of Cooper's landing resulted in this. All traffic from the highway was detoured onto the Skilak loop which as you can see is a dirt road that goes 20 something miles into the wiklderness. It was about a 2 hour drive at 5 mph dodging each other at the last second. We could not see 20 feet in front of each other. Most of the cars were not made for this road and many were stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I did my duty and helped on lady and here sister with a flat. The wreck on the Sterling was a gas tanker and some other cars. Several people died.

Description}: The Alaska Range as seen from the Denali State Highway. Taken approximately 63 degrees 14' 46" North by 147 degrees 45' 3" west on Google earth coordinates. This represents approximately 45 linear miles of somewhere around 500 miles of the total mountain range. Mt Mckinley is 150 miles west of this picture. The highway is open from May - the first of October officially but I went in to see how far I could get. I made it 62 of 135 miles on April 28, 2007. I met the front loader at that point trying to clear what appeared to be the remnants of several avalanches during th winter. Who knows. maybe it just snowed 400 inches at that point this winter. It happens.

Description}: A little turnout on the road to Chitina, Alaska turns up this little waterfall. I was tempted to take the trail above the falls to see what was up there. Alas I slept in the bed of my truck in McCarthy and was a little tired. Maybe someday when I go there and spend the night in the bunkhouse there I might try it. If I am not too old by then.

Description}: The railroad that led to McCarthy was covered with dirt in most places and is now just a road. This track served the town as a supply station for the Kennicott mine. most of this bridge section fell down and left this section standing.

Description}: This is an edited version of an image I deleted. Jack's Bay off the Valdez arm entering Valdez Alaska. This is near where the Exxon Valdez went aground way back when. Oil covered this entire area and most of the wildlife was effected one way or another. Exxon has still not lived up to the monetary obligations of the damage it caused. To top that off our peice of crap Governer, Murkowski, in case you need to know who a real peice of crap is, let them slide in hundreds of millions in fines. Big business, government and the environment do not work well together.. Do me a favor and vote for someone else next time. Look for a few more from Prince William sound I am uploading tonight.

Description}: Amidst the half dozen seals, the Eagles, thousands of Pink Salmon, somewhere in the Reinhardt saw the butt of a mother Grizzley as she went back into the bushes to tend to screaming babies. Just to let us know that we were priviledges to be in this little cove God showed his fingers and gently caressed the landscape. I am not telling any one the real name of this little place. I do not want tourists here. It was great.

Description}: What evil lurks behind... Those clouds are hiding the evil of the valdez pipeline terminus where tankers are loading with billions of gallons of oil. Good for my pocketbook being an Alaskan but bad for my favorite place, Prince William Sound. This is Valdez Alaska, at least I think it's in there somewhere.

Description}: Imagine this little rock and trees covered in black oil. Now take this little bit of rock and multiply it until you cover a beach approximately the size of the East Coast of America. That is how much damage Exxon did to this absolutely fantastic region of natures finest. And they got away with it. Now that everything is pretty much back to normal they beleive they do not need to pay retribution or restitution to those and that which was effected. by the way, I do drive a car and I am not a tree hugger per se' but I do hate the oil companies. Wish my truck was electric.

Description}: Best I can tell, this guy wandered in on an extremely high tide. Looks like he is about 3 miles into the salt flats. Obviously he never made it back to the inlet. Palmer Flats on the Knik Arm, Cook inlet, Alaska.

Description}: This is the watershed/lake/water supply for Anchorage. As you can see we always have plenty of water. What you don't see is the huge glacier that is also feeding the lake and the other half of the lake itself. It was cold as hell up there this time of year. No bears though. They were all asleep dreaming of biting my ass this summer.
